INFERENCE vs FACT

Topic: Canadian History, WWI

Factual statements are verifiable statements, focusing on what is directly observable or recorded. In contrast, inferential statements go beyond the text, using reasoning to suggest interpretations, connections, or underlying beliefs or ideas that are not explicitly stated in the evidence. Being able to identify factual statements from inferential statements is an important skill for evaluating inferences/interpretations, and knowing how to generate ones own inferences or interpretations

In this assessment, students examine several inferential and non-inferential statements drawn from a text and must determine which are inferential and which are non-inferential.
